George Logs Off One Last Time
Just a few days into his retirement after a remarkable 48 years with Balcas, we were delighted to welcome George Sheridan back to Enniskillen to properly celebrate this new and well-deserved chapter in his life.
George began his career in 1976 as a fresh-faced teenager in what is fondly remembered as the old sawmill. He later moved to the current site to work in the Bandmill, before transitioning to the newly commissioned CAE mill. George’s dedication and skill led to his promotion as Managing Director of our newly acquired operations in Newtowngore, Co. Leitrim—a role he describes as the happiest five years of his life. Returning to Enniskillen, George played a key role in setting up the Remanufacturing Unit and eventually became Production Manager of the CAE Mill. Over the next 13 years, he was widely appreciated for his approachable and effective management style.
Reflecting on his nearly five-decade-long career, George shared fond memories of working alongside three of his brothers and highlighted the many changes he witnessed over the years. Speaking to a crowd of well-wishers, he said: “I was always proud to say I worked at Balcas—it was a great place to work.” Though he expressed sadness at leaving, he concluded with his typical humour, saying, “I had to quit sometime!”
To all who had the pleasure of working with George, he leaves behind a legacy of friendship and respect. We wish him a long, happy retirement filled with sunshine, adventure, and well-earned relaxation.
Enjoy your time to chill, George!
