Continuous Improvement For Simon Allen

April 1, 2024

Joining Balcas in 2008 as a Graduate Engineer, Simon Allen successfully completed his Masters in Mechanical Engineering at QUB and is now a Chartered Engineer. Simon has been a senior member of the CAE Technical Team for the last 12 years; a perfect platform for progressing into the top management role within the CAE Mill, when he becomes Mill Manager on 1st April. During this time Simon was part of a small team who have delivered continuous improvement for more than ten consecutive years in this state-of-the-art flagship Balcas sawmill.

Continuing his studies alongside his career trajectory has seen Simon successfully complete his Six Sigma Green Belt & Black Belt qualification, the NEBOSH Health and Safety Certificate, the Advanced Manufacturing Leadership Programme through QUB as well as a ILM Level 5 in Leadership and Management.

As the new CAE Mill Manager, Simon will look to further improve productivity, quality and cost of production while employing innovative technology and leading his highly motivated team.  This will be achieved by attention to detail and setting ambitious KPI targets. Simon will also oversee a large £3.5 million upgrade within the CAE Mill that aims to further increase throughput and product quality. Simon will strive to continually improve safety within the working environment.

This role, says Simon “will be challenging, however my past experiences within the CAE Mill will help me in this managerial position”.

Simon has many pastimes outside of work that include driving race karts, running and golf.
